Welcome to the print journalism page - find out how I have contributed to the most traditional form of journalism.
Most
universities have their own student newspaper, making it easy
for students to express their views and write their own news
stories. This is also a perfect opportunity for journalism
students to gain some experience in the print field. The new
media sabatical was looking for new writers and for an editorial
team. In 2009 I became the joint editor of Christ Church's
student newspaper Unified. As well as overseeing
stories by other students, setting the news agenda in weekly
meetings and putting the stories onto the pages, I continued to
write for Unified. Examples of my work in
Unified will be uploaded soon.
In
August 2010 I underwent a work placement with Kent Regional News
& Media (KRNM), writing for their publications covering Medway,
East Kent and Sheppy. I learnt how a regional newspaper
fuctions, and how manage working to a deadline. I was given the
opportunity to go out and interview people relevant to the
stories, rather than rewording press releases from the council
constantly, making the experience more valuable. Taking note of
the writing style used by KRNM was also essential, as well as
learning to use the publishing software The Shell and
Ted. I wrote for The News,
East Kent Gazette and The Sheppy
Gazette. Feel free to look at some of the articles
published during my two week work placement.
